On the occasion of Navratri, lakhs of devotees from far and wide reach Patan Devi Mata Temple for darshan. This is a mythological and historical temple. Let us know about it…
Capital named after Patan Devi temple
According to the local people, the capital of Bihar was named Patna after the Patan Devi temple in the year 1912 AD. Patan Devi is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths of India. According to mythology, Daksh Prajapati, father of Mother Sati, was performing a yagya. During that yagya, King Daksh Prajapati had insulted Shiva, the husband of his daughter Sati. Due to which Goddess Sati became very angry and killed herself by jumping into the Havan fire. When Mahadev came to know about this, he got angry and took the dead body of Sati in his hands and started a fierce orgy. The whole world was shaken by his orgy. Then Lord Vishnu started his cycle. Because of this, the dead body of Mata Sati was broken into 51 pieces. Which fell at different places. Wherever the pieces of his body fell, they are known as Shaktipeeth. The right thigh of Mata Sati had fallen in Patna city. After this the temple was established here. Therefore this place is known as Shaktipeeth Patan Devi Temple.
The tradition of Bali still exists here.
Mahant Vijay Shankar Giri of Patan Devi Temple told that he has been serving the temple here for 70 years. Badi Patan Devi Temple has statues of Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Maa Saraswati made of black stone which are from Satyayuga. Which is worshiped with great pomp every year on the occasion of Navratri. Apart from this, a statue of Bhairav is also installed here. There is a Yoni Kund here. There is a belief that when havan material is put in this Yoni Kund, the havan material goes to the underworld. The priest tells that in the temple, raw food items are offered to the goddess every day during the day and cooked food during the night. The tradition of Bali still exists here. On the occasion of Durga Puja, Vedic puja is performed publicly in the temple, while there is also a tradition of tantric puja for a few moments during the night. At the time of Tantric puja, the doors of the temple are closed. The priest of the temple believes that this temple is famous for the accomplishment of Kalika Mantra. Here, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has given Rs 8 crore for installing the idols of the three goddesses in the sanctum sanctorum and renovating the temple. Due to which it is being constructed on a grand scale.
