On Sunday afternoon, an Audi car hit two people sitting on a bench outside Ramjas College in DU’s North Campus in North Delhi. Both were badly injured in the accident. As soon as the information was received, with the help of a PCR van, both were admitted to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital, from where one was referred to LNJP Hospital.
Govind Sarkar (45) died during treatment, while Ashok’s treatment is continuing. Police have seized the Audi A-3 car and arrested the driver Virendra Mehta (56). The accused is a High Court advocate. It is being investigated whether he was drunk at the time of the accident or not.
According to the information, on Sunday afternoon, Maurice Nagar police station received information that an Audi car hit two people sitting on a bench outside Ramjas College. After receiving the information, the police team reached the spot. The injured Govind and Ashok were taken to the hospital, where Govind later died during treatment. Both Govind and Ashok were rickshaw drivers. At the time of the accident, they were sitting outside the college and drinking tea. Govind lived with his family in Mukundpur area.
District Deputy Commissioner of Police Manoj Kumar Meena said that the accused Audi car driver Virendra Mehta lives with his family in Mukherjee Nagar. During police interrogation, the accused has told that he lost control of the car at the time of the accident. The police has taken the car into custody. Its mechanical inspection will be done on Monday. After the initial investigation, the police is denying the accused’s drunken driving.
