Amanatullah Khan Arrested: Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan has been arrested by ED. He was arrested under PMLA in the Waqf Board appointment scam. ED arrested him after about 9 hours of interrogation. Following the order of the Supreme Court, on Thursday (April 18), MLA Amanatullah Khan appeared before the ED for questioning.
Arrested in Waqf Board appointment scam
Aam Aadmi Party leader and Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan is accused of illegally recruiting 32 people as the chairman of Delhi Waqf Board. Along with this, he has illegally given many properties of Delhi Waqf Board on rent. It has also been alleged that he has misused the funds of Delhi Waqf Board. The then CEO of Delhi Waqf Board had issued a statement against such illegal recruitment.
Sanjay Singh targeted Modi government
After the arrest of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan, the party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh and Delhi government minister Atishi are going to his house. Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh posted on X and wrote, “Modi government is fully engaged in Operation Lotus. Ministers and MLAs are being arrested by making fake cases. A baseless case was made against Amanatullah Khan. End of dictatorship soon.” I am going to meet his family.”

In this case, Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) had interrogated Amanatullah Khan in September 2022. On the basis of this, ACB raided four places, from where about Rs 24 lakh cash was recovered. Apart from this, two illegal and unlicensed pistols, cartridges and ammunition were also recovered.
After this, on the basis of evidence against Amanatullah and objectionable material was found, he was arrested. He was later released on bail on 28 December 2022.
What did the court say in the last hearing?
Earlier on Monday (April 15), the Supreme Court had refused to grant anticipatory bail to Aam Aadmi Party leader Amanatullah Khan in a money laundering case related to alleged irregularities in the Waqf Board. The bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutta had said that Amanatullah Khan should not be arrested unless there is sufficient evidence against him.
The bench had told the ED counsel, “You arrest him (Amanatullah Khan) only if there is evidence. You have to follow Section 19 of the PMLA. The power of arrest should not be taken lightly.”
