Education Ministry said NTA does not outsource question papers Sukanta Majumdar


Sukanta Majumdar on NTA: The National Testing Agency has been in the news across the country ever since the NEET UG score card was released. The agency has been criticized a lot in the last few days. However, the ministry has said that the agency itself does all the main activities related to preparing the question papers for the examinations conducted by it. The agency is not dependent on any external source for this.

The Ministry of Education said in Parliament on July 22 that “more than 170 employees in the National Testing Agency (NTA) are either on contract or outsourced employees. Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar shared the information in response to a question asked in the Lok Sabha by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi. The Director General (DG) of NTA is appointed by the Central Government under the Central Staffing Scheme.

Apart from this, the number of employees working on deputation in NTA at present is 22. The number of employees working on contract is 39 and the outsourced staff/employees are 132. While one employee has been included in NTA from his original department.

Special arrangements are made for security

The ministry said that given the sensitivity involved in competitive exams, various operational and security arrangements are made for their smooth conduct. Such measures include involvement of expert/experienced agencies to provide services like biometric capturing, frisking, CCTV surveillance, AI analysis to identify any possible impersonation, exam delivery, etc. However, it is important that all core activities like preparation of question papers are not outsourced.
