Since the launch of the EV policy in Delhi in August 2020, the graph of increase in the number of electric vehicles is continuously climbing. In view of the increasing number of vehicles, the process of increasing the number of e-vehicles continues unabated due to the expansion of charging infrastructure for them and financial relief from the Delhi government.

During the last two and a half years, 1.17 lakh electric vehicles have been registered in Delhi. In 2022, a total of 62,241 EVs will be registered in Delhi. EV sales in Delhi are expected to reach one lakh by the end of this year.

Till December last year, e-vehicles accounted for 16.8 per cent of the total vehicles sold in Delhi. Charging infrastructure is also being promoted rapidly in Delhi. More than 4,000 charging points have been installed in Delhi. The number of charging points in Delhi is expected to increase to 18,000 by 2025.

Greenhouse gas emissions coming down

The EV policy is also reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in Delhi. This has also increased the business potential in the EV sector. This recognition reflects the Kejriwal government’s commitment towards the transport sector and the steps taken towards making Delhi a clean and green future.

Delhi government’s EV policy gets state leadership award

The Delhi Government has been conferred with the State Leadership Award (EV Policy) at the 6th Industry Excellence Awards-2023 of the India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) for its commendable efforts to promote mobility through its Electric Vehicle (EV) policy Is. Many eminent personalities took part in the program organized at Pragati Maidan. Delhi EV Cell CEO N Mohan received the award at the event on behalf of the Delhi government.

Congratulating the EV cell, Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot said that since 2022, Delhi has seen a huge increase in both the sale of electric vehicles and the charging infrastructure. Delhi Government and Delhi EV Cell under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal have made several efforts to encourage the transport sector in Delhi. Over the years, important schemes including the Delhi EV Policy have played a major role in making Delhi the EV capital of India.
