To stop this, the Department of Telecommunications has taken strict steps and has given instructions to block 392 mobile phones. According to the information, these mobile phones were being used in the electricity KYC update scam.

Register your complaint on Chakshu portal

The government came to know about this scam through the Chakshu portal. The government has created this portal to help. If you receive an unknown call or message, you can go to this portal and register your complaint. While doing the same, when the scammers started sending messages to people to update KYC by posing as electricity department officials, people started complaining about it on the Chakshu portal. After which the government investigated with the help of AI and traced 392 mobile phones and more than 31,740 mobile numbers. Which were being used by scammers in the electricity KYC update scam.

How to avoid such scams?

To avoid such scams, first of all do not share your personal information such as bank details, OTP or account number with anyone, scammers can misuse your personal information. Apart from this, do not click on any link given in any unknown message. If you want to get any information about the electricity department, then go to its website and check from there. Apart from this, do not share your KYC on any unknown call or message. Use a strong password for the online electricity bill account and turn on two-factor authentication.
