Prayagraj: Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh has been a land of ascetics. Many accomplished men lived at this place of penance. One of them was Devraha Baba whose ashram is located on the banks of the Saryu river in Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh, but he had a special attachment to Prayagraj. Devraha Baba left this world as a mystery whose age even the scientists of Oxford were unable to tell.
Had a special attachment with Prayagraj
Devraha Baba played an important role in promoting Maharishi Patanjali’s Yoga Darshan and his Yoga Vidya. Through this Vidya, he attained Ashta Siddhi and Nav Nidhi and always remained in Brahmalin through Yoga Darshan. It is believed that he was always connected to God. Even today his ashram is spread across India and abroad. In Uttar Pradesh itself, Devraha Baba’s huge ashrams are present in Vindhyachal, Deoria, Prayagraj and Vrindavan.
He always had a special attachment to Prayagraj and every year during Magh Mela and Kumbh, he used to set up his ashram on the banks of Ganga before Makar Sankranti. Where he used to do penance sitting on a 10 feet high platform. In this 10 feet height, half of it used to be a hut and the other half used to remain open.
Even Oxford scientists could not tell the age
Devraha Baba’s disciple Swami Rameshwar Prapannacharya says that our Guru Devraha Baba remained a mystery. Till date no one was able to tell his correct age. It is said that during Maha Kumbh in 1976, some scientists from Oxford University had come to the fair. During that time, in front of Dr. Parihar, Professor of Botany Department of Allahabad University, the scientists used many instruments on him to tell his age. His samples were taken but their instruments did not work on Baba.
It is said that Devraha Baba had said that your equipment will work outside our premises. Our body is given by God and will be taken back by him. Prapannacharya says that at that time he was a student of Allahabad University. He saw that the camera and other equipment of the scientists had gone blank.
Similarly, Devraha Baba’s disciple Shailaja Kant Mishra, who is currently the vice-president of Mathura Authority, also came in front of Baba with a pistol. Baba asked what is this iron device. Shailaja told that it is a pistol which is for our security. On this, on Baba’s instructions, she tried to fire the pistol but all the bullets of her pistol missed and the pistol did not fire. Baba told that your pistol will work only outside our premises.
