Even before going to Mars, humans are amazing, garbage is increasing there, scientists are worried

There is a race to send humans to Mars. It started in 1971 with the campaigns of the Soviet Union. Of its Mars 2 and Mars 3 missions, the Mars 2 orbiter entered the orbit of Mars and its lander crashed during landing. Since then, many missions have been sent to Mars. Most of these rovers and instruments are now broken. Recently, NASA’s Ingenuity helicopter has crashed there and stopped working, after which it has also been converted into garbage. In such a situation, scientists are expressing concern that we should be concerned about the human waste accumulating on Mars.

So far, more than seven tons of garbage has accumulated on Mars. Most of these are rovers and other instruments that have stopped functioning completely. On Mars, there are no intense natural processes like on Earth due to which things get rusted due to rain and dust and get scattered here and there.

The thing to note here is that scientists do not yet consider the rover as space garbage. Whereas at present only NASA’s Curiosity and Perseverance and China’s Jurong Rover are working on Mars. Dr. James Black of Warwick University says that it is common in space missions that rovers and helicopters sometimes encounter old garbage.

Only three rovers are active on Mars while the rest have been turned into garbage by now.

Such missions are responsible for the increase in garbage on Mars, which either ended before completion or there were disturbances in them. This includes Mars 6 Lander and Britain’s Beagle 2. NASA’s Polar Lander also went missing in 1999. At the same time, many old NASA equipments have also got damaged.

Unfortunately there is no technique that will work just to ensure that things that happen after a campaign ends will not be a hindrance to other or future campaigns. Now that there is going to be a flood of missions to Mars in the coming times, agencies will have to consider the issue that the things sent by humans to Mars act less as garbage.
