‘The Fame Game’ Review: In 2002, Madhuri Dixit worked in a successful film like Devdas and took a break from films to focus on family. The fascination of the silver screen pulled him from America to India in 2007 and he made a comeback with the film “Aaja Nachle”. After another long break, in 2010, Baisiyat returned to judge the reality television show “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa” and since then has been struggling to regain her place in films in one way or the other.
Madhuri’s career started in 1984 with the film Abodh. The 1988 film Tezaab made her the most popular actress in India. In a career spanning 38 years, she became a box office queen for 14 years and after marriage and having two children and despite several years of career break, the craze for Madhuri continues even today. The latest example of this is Netflix’s new show “The Fame Game”. Seeing this, it seems that this role has been written keeping Madhuri in mind and she has made her feel strong in each and every scene with her unique acting ability. Family thriller “The Fame Game” is a great web series. The first season has just been released, and at the point where it ended, there is a possibility of a second season.
Over the years, Anamika Anand (Madhuri Dixit), a successful box office actress, lives with her husband Nikhil More (Sanjay Kapoor), her mother Kalyani (Suhasini Mulay) and two children Amara (Muskan Jaffrey) and Avinash (Laxveer Saran). Anamika keeps watching her family disintegrate. Anamika sees her mother who pushed her to become a heroine in the film line at a young age and then became a vulture on her career, losing millions in gambling. Losing all her earnings because of her husband’s unwise business decisions, Anamika finds her property on the brink of auction.
Anamika is scared of fulfilling her daughter’s dream of becoming a heroine. Anamika is an emotional mother torn between her son’s decision to turn gay and choose a career as a musician. Anamika weaves dreams of a new life with her ex-boyfriend superstar Manish Khanna (Manav Kaul) and Anamika burns herself every moment worrying about her growing age and declining career. One day Anamika suddenly disappears. Here the police investigation begins and on the other hand, each person associated with Anamika’s life comes out with their own wounds, who have only one objective – to eliminate Anamika. What culminates in these conspiracies, here are some of the worst games associated with the fame of Anamika Anand The Superstar.
The main creator of this series is Mr. Rao, who has been working in the world of television and film for the last several years in New York. He produced the films New York and Badmaash Company and also wrote a hugely flop film Baar Baar Dekho (Katrina, Sidharth Malhotra). This time he is co-writing the series with Shreya Bhattacharya, writer of Badhaai Ho and recently released Badhaai Do, Akshat Ghildiyal, Amita Vyas, and Hollywood writer Nisha Mehta. The web series is very well resolved and the complications are also shown in the best way. Seeing the mutual dialogues and scenes between Madhuri and her mother Suhasini, Hindi film actress Nutan and her mother actress Shobhana Samarth are remembered.
Shobhana used to take care of her daughter Nutan’s career and business, and along with this, her interference in Nutan’s personal life was too much. The interference in Nutan’s every decision along with his commentary was so much that at one point Nutan had to come and knock on the door of the court. In the web series, as soon as Suhasini learns that Madhuri is having an affair with her co-actor Manav Kaul and Madhuri is probably pregnant, she gets her married to her sister’s son i.e. nephew Sanjay Kapoor.
Madhuri’s success and work makes her home run and this thing keeps on troubling her husband Sanjay Kapoor. That’s why he expresses his frustration by beating Madhuri. Sanjay Kapoor looks good in this role. When he comes to know that he is not the real father of Madhuri’s son, his facial expressions seemed perfect at that moment. When the husband works to manage the wife’s earnings instead of earning himself, then it is very difficult for him to justify his decisions. Sanjay does less work and even if Anil Kapoor is not there, he still does good work. It is even better that he has saved his age and does not hesitate to roll 45 par. Laxveer Saran did a good job in Paatal Lok and Unposed: Naya Safar but his performance in The Fame Game is also strong. Distraught by Madhuri’s public success and image, watching Sanjay’s failures, a young man grappling with his own sexuality, finds himself to understand before it is too late. His stubbornness not to hurt any of his loved ones with his mind, words and deeds has filled his mind with a lot of complications. Lakshveer has played the character very seriously.
Muskaan Jaffrey as Lakshveer’s sister has also impressed the audience with her performance. I want to become a heroine like my mother, but I don’t know whether I will be able to struggle like her, I don’t know whether I have acting ability like her, I don’t have beauty like her, I just know this much. The mental state of the children of a successful and beautiful actress is affected by fame, insecurities, mother’s fans, behavior of industry people, behavior of friends and even her own thoughts and Muskaan portrays such a complex character beautifully. Played from One angle of this multi-cornered story is Manav Kaul. Manav leaves an impact as a bipolar film actor but his character does not evoke sympathy.
The dialogue between Madhuri and Sanjay Kapoor at the launch of the music of their film, wants to give a new twist to the story but at the cost of weakening Manav’s character. If anyone had doubts about the acting talent of Rajshree Deshpande, who played Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s acquaintance Subhadra in Netflix’s first original Indian web series “Sacred Games”, it would end with this series. In one scene, Rajshree is also heavy on her super senior Suhasini Mule. If Rajshree continues to work like this, soon it will not take long for her name to be included in the best actresses of this time. Makrand Deshpande, Gagan Arora, Kashyap Shangri etc have played their roles well.
What can be written about Madhuri Dixit. There are very few actresses like her. In this series, he has got an amazing opportunity to show all his acting skills. If the film actress has become, then the performance of dance art has also been included. Many times it seems that the story of the web series could be Madhuri’s own story. Pashopesh is such a feeling that it is not in the capability of good actors to play on the screen. Madhuri has brought it directly to the audience at least half a dozen times. Her last scene with her make-up man is a small sample of Madhuri’s maturity. Madhuri has not made any effort to hide her age in this series. Dialogues full of sarcasm and sarcasm with her mother, dialogues with her son-daughter giving sympathy and support, dialogues with her lover about a new life, Madhuri has done wonders on every front. It seems that it would have been decided to make this entire series only when Madhuri would have said yes for it.
There are two directors of this series – Bejoy Nambiar and Karishma Kohli. Bejoy’s films Shaitaan and Wazir were very much liked. Few people are aware of Karishma Kohli. Karishma’s father is Kuku Kohli, who was an assistant to Raj Kapoor and director of Ajay Devgan’s debut film Phool Aur Kaante. Karishma has worked as an assistant with directors like JP Dutta, Kunal Kohli and Kabir Khan. There are stars like Salman and Katrina who are convinced of his directorial ability. Bijoy and Karishma have different styles but it is difficult to differentiate between the work of both in this series. The cinematography of the web series is done by Manoj Kumar Khatoi. Along with grandeur, his camera work also speaks volumes in intimate scenes. The shots of the farm house are amazing. Monisha Baldua, the editor of films like Neerja, Badla and Dhamaka, is a little lax in using scissors on this web series. The story was deviating from the original somewhere, some side tracks could have been shortened. Some scenes seem too long, while there was no need for such a big scene as a family thriller.
The web series is made very methodically. Karan Johar’s OTT production company Dharmatic has produced, so some things must happen. Like Madhuri’s dance. A very gay character, luckily this character has not been made a joke. It has also become necessary to have some sex scenes while it was not necessary. Madhav’s character of Gagan Arora could also be removed. Despite its share of weaknesses, The Fame Game is a very well made web series. No expense has been spared, hence the scale of production is of a high standard. This thing is also going to be learned from Karan that either the expenditure should be done openly so that no stone is left unturned or the production should not be done at all. Web series is an investment of about 6 and a quarter hours, do this only after knowing the risk.
