Young farmers of Bitho village of Gaya in Bihar are growing vegetables by farming in different ways. Apart from this, by using the waste generated from one farming in another, this farming is also being made eco-friendly. Farmer Shakti Kumar has made a brilliant experiment of Waste to Wealth. He is growing organic vegetables in mushroom growing compost bags.
Shakti has been growing mushrooms in his house for the last several years. He earns a good income in this work. The compost bag became useless after mushroom cultivation. He was thrown in the fields. Shakti invented a new concept. As an experiment, he sowed vegetable seeds in waste compost bags and got good success. Shakti Kumar, a mushroom and organic farming farmer, resident of Kandi village of Bitho Sharif, said that we had started farming on the terrace and first we started growing mushrooms. Used to produce. During this period, about 500 bags were used for mushrooms and good profits were also made from it.

The waste that remains after mushroom production is used to plant bitter gourd and cucumber on the terrace. We got great benefits from this model. Rajesh Singh, the director of a farm, advised us not to put the mushroom waste in the field but on the roof, because it would be more beneficial. In the beginning we were a little skeptical but when we adopted his method, we saw that it really gave good results. He told that nowadays whenever we wake up in the morning and go to the terrace, we feel cool breeze and the temperature of the house is always maintained. It feels like there is a natural AC on the terrace.
Where did it start?
Initially when we started mushroom cultivation, we started with only 50 bags, but today we have reached 500-550 bags and are earning good profits from it. There is good demand for mushrooms in the nearby market, due to which we did not face any problem. I also feel that today’s youth should pay attention to farming along with studies. Farming can be done as a part-time job, and it does not take much time. Till now, along with mushrooms, we are also growing bitter gourd and cucumber. After this, we are also using the compost obtained in the cultivation of potatoes and onions.
