Expansion

Farmers in Noida and Greater Noida have marched to Delhi demanding better compensation from the authorities. Due to this, there is huge traffic jam on the roads coming from Noida to Delhi. The administration has strictly tried to stop the farmers from coming to Delhi and has stopped them at the Delhi border. Due to this, a situation like farmer movement seems to be creating. But problems may increase for the government in the coming times on the farmers’ front. Samyukta Kisan Morcha has decided to observe Gramin Bharat Bandh at the national level across the country on 16th February. This movement is also being claimed to have the support of some big political parties of the opposition.

According to the information received by Amar Ujala, on February 16, farmer organizations under the leadership of United Kisan Morcha will observe Bharat Bandh for a day. There are plans to hold demonstrations and rallies in rural areas across the country between 9 am and 4 pm. According to the Swaminathan Commission, it will also be organized with demands like announcement of minimum support price for all crops and linking farming with MNREGA. The farmers allege that the promises made by the central government to end their agitation were not fulfilled.

On the same day, leftist labor organizations of various departments have also called for a one-day bandh. This can also strengthen the farmers movement. Efforts are being made to include some other sections as well. Preparations are also being made to connect the youth who are protesting on the issue of unemployment.

According to sources associated with the United Kisan Morcha, this movement may also get support from some opposition parties including Congress, Trinamool Congress, DMK. This may increase its effect. It is being said that it will be affected especially in South India and Eastern part. By holding such demonstrations just before the Lok Sabha elections, farmers are adopting a strategy to put pressure on the government. Farmers had launched a similar campaign before the West Bengal elections. It is believed that Trinamool Congress got the benefit from this. Now even before the Lok Sabha elections, efforts are being made to heat up the issue of farmers.

Claim of big work for farmers

Contrary to the allegations of farmer organizations, the central government claims that it has done a lot of work to improve the economic condition of farmers. Farmers are being provided cash financial assistance of Rs 6000 per year, assistance in purchasing fertilizers and seeds by giving Kisan Credit Card, housing assistance to poor farmers under PM Awas, assistance for better health services through Ayushman Yojana. Efforts have also been made to strengthen poor farmers economically by promoting millet food.
