The distressed farmer filed a suit in the District Consumer Disputes Relations Commission. On behalf of the Commission, orders were given to the cold storage operator to give Rs 3.37 lakh to the farmer.

In Agra, the cold storage operator sold potatoes of the farmer cheaply without permission. Did not even pay. On filing the suit, Sarvesh Kumar, Chairman of the District Consumer Disputes Pratiosh Commission I, ordered the cold storage operator to pay the farmer’s potato amount with interest.

Sunil Kumar, a resident of Barhan, Etmadpur, had filed a suit in the commission. Sarvesh Kumar, Chairman of Commission I, ordered that the farmer should be given Rs 3.37 lakh with six percent annual interest from Kapil Aggarwal, the director of Mona Devi Ice and Cold Storage, resident of Bandra village in Firozabad. Also, 15 thousand rupees will have to be given separately as mental pain and suit expenditure.

This was the case

The farmer said that he stored 2536 packets of potatoes in Mona Devi Ice and Cold Storage from March 3, 2021 to 17 March. Some potato packets were sold and paid by cold storage operators. On 17 December 2021, the operator again sought permission to sell 1106 potato packets at the rate of Rs 531. The deal was made for Rs 571. But the cold storage operator did not pay the amount after selling potatoes. The legal notice also did not respond.
