First electrical alarm made in 1890
The world’s first mechanical alarm system was built in 1787 by Levi Hutchins, a resident of Concord, New Hampshire. The specialty of this mechanical alarm system was that it used to ring only at 4 in the morning. Actually, Levi Hutchins made it so that he could not sleep after 4 o’clock because it was the rule of his firm that he has to get up before the sun rises. He had prepared this alarm only for his wake up and made its mechanical system in such a way that it rings only at 4 o’clock. Today, even though we can set the alarm manually according to our own, but the world’s first alarm system was not like this. After this, work on the alarm system continued and in 1847 French inventor Antoine Radier created and patented the first adjustable mechanical alarm clock. In this, the alarm could easily be set according to its own. After this many more people worked on the alarm clock and made clocks of different designs. Let us tell you, the world’s first electrical alarm clock was made in 1890.

Idea of earphone/headphone came from telephone receiver
Today headphones and earphones have become very common. But do you know how they started? Actually, the idea of earphone or headphone flourished from the receiver part of the telephone and in 1880 the first headphone was used by a telephone operator which was made by Ezra Guilliland. It could not be called a headphone because it had only one earpiece for listening while on the other hand there was a receiver of the headphone in the shoulder. The weight of this headphone was 4.5 kg. In 1891, a French engineer Ernest Mercadier started working on earphones and after doing many experiments, he succeeded in making a small earphone which he patented as “bi-telephone”. This was called the world’s first earphone.
