Flipkart has to pay 10000 to a customer after canceled order of iPhone

Flipkart: Flipkart keeps organizing many sales on its platform to keep the users attracted. Through these sales, users can save money by purchasing gadgets, smartphones or any other item, but sometimes Flipkart, Amazon or other e-commerce platforms cancel the orders of the users, due to which the users face a lot of trouble. What happens is that their hope of buying and using the new product is lost.

Flipkart had to pay compensation

Generally, people do not complain in such cases, but those who complain, they also benefit from it. Same thing has happened with Flipkart this time. Canceling a user’s order proved so costly for Flipkart that it had to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 to the user. Let us tell you about this entire matter.

Actually, according to a report by news agency PTI, the customer had ordered an iPhone from Flipkart on July 10, 2022. For this the user had paid Rs 39,628 from his credit card. The iPhone should have reached the user by July 12, but according to the complaining customer, Flipkart suddenly canceled his order after 6 days.

customer complained

The customer complained about this to the Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, which after hearing found Flipkart guilty of unfair trade. After that, the Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission ruled that the customer suffered mental agony due to the cancellation of the order by Flipkart, hence it will have to pay Rs 10,000 to the customer.

According to the complaint, Flipkart informed the petitioner that several attempts to deliver the products failed as they were unavailable, which ultimately led to cancellation of the order. The customer’s complaint reportedly states that the cancellation of his order not only caused him loss but also caused him mental harassment and made him face online fraud.

What did Flipkart say?

In response, Flipkart informed the Commission that the complainant had mistaken the platform for the seller of the product. The e-commerce head said it only acts as a medium while the actual products are sold by independent third-party sellers.

Flipkart explained that it had no role in the transaction between the petitioner and the seller (International Value Retail Pvt. Ltd.). Flipkart claimed that the order was canceled due to irresponsible customer and the dispute was only between the complainant and the seller.

What did the consumer court say?

However, “the consumer court rejected Flipkart’s arguments and found that Flipkart had asked the customer to re-order the same iPhone, and by then the price of the same iPhone had increased by Rs 7,000.”

The consumer court further said, “Flipkart did this deliberately to earn extra profits, which is a wrong way to do business. Although the complainant has got a refund, he has not been given any compensation due to the unilateral cancellation of his order by Flipkart.” He should be compensated for the mental harassment and pain he suffered.”

Thus, in the end, the consumer court directed Flipkart to pay Rs 10,000 as compensation for mental harassment and agony and Rs 3,000 as costs.
