In a major discovery, astronomers with NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) discovered a unique exoplanet that is likely to have huge oceans of water. There is a lot of enthusiasm among scientists due to this discovery because they are considering it as a huge achievement in the discovery of habitable conditions outside the Earth.
The observational data for this discovery has been provided by the James Webb Telescope. From these data, scientists have found indications of the presence of methane and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere of the exoplanet along with the presence of water in vapor form.
Researchers at Cambridge University say that this chemical structure suggests that this is a world in which a layer of hydrogen-rich atmosphere surrounds the world of water.

Professor Nikku Madhusudhan, who led the analysis, said that the temperature of the planet’s oceans could reach 100 degrees Celsius or more, but the habitability of such an environment still remains uncertain. But the debate deepened when a Canadian team challenged these conditions by making additional observations of the same exoplanet.
The Canadian team argued that the temperature of this planet could be so high that liquid water could not survive here and the maximum temperature here could be 4 thousand degrees Celsius.
By studying the light of this exoplanet’s star, astronomers can extract information about the chemical composition of the planet’s atmosphere. This tells us whether there can be life on the planet or not. The absence of ammonia in the atmosphere of TOI-270 d suggests that there may be an ocean beneath the hydrogen-filled atmosphere. But more observation is needed to confirm this.
Nevertheless, this discovery itself is very encouraging because no planetary system with such properties has been seen till now. And their in-depth study can prove to give a lot of new information. Nevertheless, more in-depth research of this planet is still going on. And there is a need to be very careful in drawing conclusions.
