Forensic Review: Making a remake does not mean forgetting the grammar of the film

Special attention is paid to the novelty of the story in Malayalam films. His characters are out of common life, so dramatization is almost negligible. Even in the screenplay of Malayalam films, the mental state of the characters is created with complete credibility so that each and every act done by them, does not seem different and clumsy from their characters. What doesn’t make sense is what happens when a Hindi remake of an excellent Malayalam psychological thriller film necessitates tinkering with the story, makes the characters hard to believe and the screenplay too formulaic. No attempt is made to escape. This is how the film “Forensic” is made. Director Vishal Furia has made the same mistakes in this film which a common director does. The story of the film is of a new type but its treatment is a bit sloppy and gets defeated because of the cast. Released on Zee 5, this film is worth watching if you want to watch a new type of film, but why watch the Hindi remake, its original and Malayalam language form can be seen on Netflix. You watch it with subtitles, much more dangerous.

In the beginning of the film, Johnny Khanna (Vikrant Massey) is seen who is called to do a forensic investigation of a murder. Forensic investigation is a very serious subject. Evidence is collected by examining every corner. In English films, forensic experts examine the crime scene so closely that they clear the way for the police to reach the culprit. Vikrant has been made a forensic expert who reaches the crime scene dancing and recites a poem on seeing a dead body lying on a woman’s bed – Johny Johny, yes darling. Similarly, while reciting the poem, he also investigates the crime scene and declares the woman’s husband as a criminal. Case solved means end of Johnny’s poem – Open your mouth, hahaha. So far it seems that Vikrant is a very talented specialist and is not happy with the working of the police, so he solves the case jokingly. Unfortunately, in the entire 2-hour film, Vikrant becomes very serious, behaves like a cheap detective (scrutinizing the character of the husband or wife) and does not take advantage of a single rupee in the whole story.

Megha (Radhika Apte) is the heroine of the film. She is Vikrant’s old lover and keeps kissing him every now and then, but after the suicide of her sister, Vikrant’s sister-in-law, there is tension in their relationship. Radhika is also an honest police inspector and is also the guardian of her niece i.e. Vikrant’s niece. When Radhika Apte made her debut on screen, she used to be in limelight because of her bold roles. His acting talent has always been in doubt. His acting in this film is completely haphazard, flat and his expressions also do not match with the story. Radhika desperately needs to find herself. She looks the same in each of her films. Being a police inspector in Dehradun has nothing to do with his acting. Even in his dialogue delivery, there is little coordination with emotions.

Prachi Desai’s character is good. Anant Mahadevan’s character is pointless. Vindu Dara Singh has appeared on screen after a long time and controversy and has remained as Hanuman of Vikrant-Radhika’s Ram-Sita pair. They don’t understand whether they have to be serious or do comedy. Rohit Roy is playing the role of Vikrant’s elder brother, whose name is Abhay, but why Vikrant’s name is Johnny is a bit difficult to understand. In the film, the forensic expert is shown with a variety of equipment, even a 3-D printer. When the film gets stuck at one point, another forensic expert and his well-equipped lab are also shown. Now on to the fun. The name of this forensic expert is Dr. Solanki. This character is played by Narendra Gupta who appeared in the television mega-serial C.I.D. I also become a forensic expert and his name is Dr. Salunke. The flight of imagination of the author does not stop here. In one scene, Dr. Solanki proudly looks at Vikrant and says “Darwaza Tod” i.e. now Vikrant is expected to do the job of Inspector Daya Shetty. There is a severe lack of creativity in the writing team Adhir Bhat (Bandish Bandits), Ajit Jagtap (Sacrifice) and Vishal Kapoor (Chhori, Attack). There is another very clumsy dialogue in the film – in this city, even if someone buys new underwear, everyone knows its colour. Instead of this poor dialogue, this film could have been made.

Vishal Furia’s direction becomes less than average when he dares to deviate from the Malayalam film. Malayalam forensics was directed by Akhil Paul and Anas Khan, whose film was his debut. Vishal has made films before this but has missed this one. Vikrant’s character will do comedy, will be the best forensic expert and then will suddenly become serious. In the film, the mystery of the murder of small girls is to be solved, but no one tells why only girls, why not a small child? There are many evidences which show that the height of the murderer is short, so Inspector Megha starts catching dwarf people of the city. When Vikrant has to enter the house, Vindu Dara Singh simply drives away the fellow policemen. The director has the right to reject the childish script, but Vishal did not do such a thing this time. The film also has music by Adrija Gupta. There are so many absurd songs, so many dissonant songs that not a single one is remembered or leaves any impression. The importance of background music has also been sidelined in a psychological thriller. In the cinematography of Anshul Choubey, the beauty of the entire Dehradun has been removed. Most of the shooting has been done inside the rooms. Abhijeet Deshpande’s editing also has many shortcomings, but the little interest that is aroused in the film is only because of the editing.

The Malayalam original of Forensic is accurate, logical and no scene or character is haphazard. There are all these flaws in Hindi forensics. Vikrant alone could not bear the burden of the film and no film can be left on Radhika. You can watch the film on the weekend, although there is no guarantee that it will be good.
