Indian students drowned: Students from India who had gone to Russia for studies have died. According to the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India, all the students were studying at Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University in Veliky Novgorod, Russia. In an unfortunate incident, four Indian students drowned in the Volkhov River. The fifth Indian student was saved from drowning in the incident and is undergoing treatment in the hospital.
The report issued by the Ministry of External Affairs said that our Consulate in St. Petersburg is in touch with the university and local authorities. The Indian Embassy is providing all possible assistance in the matter. The report said that out of the four students who drowned in the river, local emergency services have so far recovered two bodies from the Volkhov River. The search for the remaining two missing students is still on. The Ministry of External Affairs has expressed condolences to the families of those killed in this incident. All the five students involved in the accident are from Jalgaon district of Maharashtra.
Maharashtra student drowns in Russia
The Ministry of External Affairs said that our Consulate in St. Petersburg is in talks with the local authorities of Russia to bring the bodies to India. The Indian Consulate in Russia is in touch with the family members involved in the incident. All the students who were victims of the incident in Russia are from Jalgaon district of Maharashtra. According to Russian media, all the students had gone to Russia to study medicine. Local people have saved a student from drowning.
Missing students may be dead
The Indian Embassy is in touch with the victim families and the district administration in Jalgaon, Maharashtra. Further action is being taken. At present, two students have not been traced yet. Russia’s regional relief and rescue team is searching for the students in the river, but it is expected that those two students must have also died, as the bodies of two students have already been recovered from the river.
