G7 Meeting Live Updates: The ‘Group of Seven’ or G7 countries are meeting in Italy. This time the G7 summit is being organized from 13 to 15 June. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been invited as a special guest in this program, has reached Italy. During the summit, India will focus on issues like artificial intelligence, energy, Africa and the Mediterranean region. The issue of the fierce war going on in Ukraine and the conflict in Gaza is going to dominate this conference.

PM Modi is likely to hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders, including US President Joe Biden, Italy’s Giorgia Meloni, who will attend the outreach session of the G7 summit. He may discuss issues like defence and trade with these countries. Before leaving for Italy, PM Modi said that important issues for the Global South will also be discussed in the outreach session. India wants to make itself the voice of the Global South.

This is PM Modi’s first foreign visit after becoming the Prime Minister for the third consecutive time. The G7 summit to be held at the luxurious resort of Borgo Egnazia in the Apulia region of Italy will cover bilateral issues along with global issues. The G7 includes the US, UK, France, Italy, Germany, Canada and Japan. Italy is currently chairing and hosting the G7 (Group of Seven countries) summit.

In this meeting being held under its presidency, Italy has emphasized on protecting the rules-based international system. According to Italy, Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine has weakened its principles and has led to increasing instability with many crises around the world. It says that the G7 will give equal importance to the conflict in the Middle East and its consequences for the global agenda.

Apart from India, Italy has invited the leaders of 11 developing countries from Africa, South America and the Indo-Pacific region to attend the summit. Although the European Union is not a member of the G7, it participates in the annual summit.
