New Delhi. Kotwali police station has exposed a Gujarati gang that steals cash from collection agents coming to the markets of Old Delhi. Police have arrested three miscreants including a woman from the gang. Police have recovered Rs 2 lakh, six mobile phones, jewelery cutter and scales from their possession. The police is conducting raids to arrest three absconding criminals of the gang.
The police officer said that Sahil, a resident of West Ram Nagar, Sonipat, complained about the theft of Rs 5 lakh from his bag at the Kotwali police station on March 6. He told that he works in a firm and was taking payment from a businessman of Chandni Chowk. He told that at 3 o’clock he boarded an e-rickshaw from Red Fort Chowk. Three women were already sitting on the back seat and two people were sitting with the driver. After landing at Nishad Raj T-Point, money was found missing from his bag.
The police team, under the leadership of station in-charge Jatan Singh, checked 150 CCTV cameras along the entire route. The footage showed an e-rickshaw without number plate on which Sahil was sitting. Three women wearing burqa were sitting on the e-rickshaw. From the CCTV footage, the police identified the driver as Shyam. A case of theft is registered against him in Paschim Vihar police station. After identifying him from the dossier, his associates were searched, but the addresses of all the accused were found to be fake.
Through technical surveillance, on March 23, the police arrested Rohit, who was involved in the crime, from Raghuveer Nagar. During interrogation, he told that it was he who had informed his associates about Sahil taking the money. On his tip, the police arrested Pooja and Akshay from Mangolpur village.
