The scorching heat has started showing its effect. For the first time, the water level of Ganga has reached 189 feet. The water level of Ganga has decreased by two centimeters in 24 hours. If the water level of Ganga goes down by three more feet, the drinking water supply of the city will stop. 189 feet is considered an alarming situation.

When the water level reaches 186 feet, the city’s drinking water supply will stop. In view of this, a letter has been sent by Jalkal to Kanpur Ramganga to release water. At the same time, the Municipal Corporation has sent a letter to the Principal Secretary Irrigation requesting to release water.

According to the Central Water Commission, the water level of Ganga is stable at 57.6 meters. According to experts, till now the water level of Ganga remains between 190 to 192 feet in summer. This time the water level of Ganga has reached 189 feet. If the water level of Ganga decreases at this pace, then there may be a drinking water crisis in the coming days.

According to the ground water department, the ground water level of Banaras district has gone down by 0.10 meters. The ground water level which was one meter in March has now gone down by 1.10 meters. Due to the constant falling of water level due to heat at this time, the boring of hand pumps is failing.

Apart from some areas of the city, Araziline, Harhua Block, Pindra Block are in the dark zone. Boring is prohibited here. Apart from these, Baragaon, Chiraigaon, Cholapur, Kashi Vidyapeeth and Sevapuri Block are in the critical zone.
