Garuda Purana Lord Vishnu Niti: The importance of charity has been explained in Hindu religious scriptures. Donating is considered a very virtuous act. There has been a tradition of charity in Sanatan Dharma since centuries. Even today people donate for peace of mind, fulfillment of wishes, attainment of virtue, freedom from the effects of planetary defects and to receive the blessings of God.
The importance of charity increases even more because of this. Because it is believed that the benefit of your donation is not only in life but also after death. Because after death, when your deeds are assessed, then these good deeds come in handy.
But you get the virtuous fruit of charity only when the charity is done at the right time, in the right way and in the right mind. In Garuda Purana, through a verse by Lord Vishnu, it has been told about such a donation made by a person, which is of no use. Neither God is pleased with such a donation, nor do you get the virtuous fruit of it. Know, according to Garuda Purana, when and how to donate.
verse- Donor poor: Krupanorthyukt: Putrovidheya: Kujanasya service.
Parapakareshu Narsya Mrityu: Prajayate Dishcharitani Panch.
- Donate according to your ability: According to this verse, even if you get virtue from charity, God is also pleased with such people. But you should donate according to your ability. Low income or donation done without thinking can lead to poverty. Therefore, before donating, do assess your financial condition. According to the scriptures, a person should donate Dashavandha i.e. 10 percent of his earnings.
- Don’t donate for show off: There is no benefit in such charity, which you do for show off. Only charity done with devotion comes under the category of virtuous deeds. That’s why it is said that charity should be done in such a way that it is done with one hand and the other hand does not even know about it.
- Donate with a true heart: Don’t do any kind of donation with anger or in strength. Such donation is of no use. At the same time, never donate to the unfortunate people. Donate only to someone who needs it.
