Any major accident can happen anytime on the lifeline National Highway-2 that goes from the capital of India, Delhi, to the capital of Bengal, Kolkata, via Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand. The pedestrians and drivers traveling on this route in Gaya are always afraid of this, because the way the series of collapse of bridges one after another in Bihar is not stopping. At the same time, now the old bridges and culverts built on the National Highway have also become dilapidated. This puts a brake on the speed of the vehicles. Also, in the shadow of fear and dread, people cross the bridges and culverts built on the National Highway at a slow speed.
In fact, many bridges on National Highway-2 passing through Sherghati subdivision of Gaya district are years old, whose condition has become very dilapidated. Somewhere there are cracks in the lower part of the bridges, somewhere the rods have come out and somewhere there are potholes on the top, due to which the movement of small and big vehicles on this route is also affected. Also, small and big vehicles cross the bridges with fear, jolting.
Local youth Praveen Kumar told that this is Chordah village situated on the border of Bihar Jharkhand, where Bihar is on this side of the river and Jharkhand is on the other side. He told that the condition of this bridge is very bad. Anything can happen anytime. You can see the condition of the bridge. There is no problem with the movement of small vehicles, but something can happen anytime with the passing of big cargo vehicles. He told that when big cargo vehicles come, we feel scared. Moreover, it is the rainy season, anything can happen now. We come and go through this bridge every day. There is a fear that something may happen here too. He said that this will also fall and now it has come to the condition of falling, because it has become old. Therefore, it can fall anytime.
On the other hand, Ramvriksh Gupta (55), a resident of Barachatti block of Gaya district, says that NH-2 is the main road connecting Delhi to Kolkata. Since childhood, I have been seeing the 100-foot long bridge built over the Gulskari river near Shobh Bazar in Barachatti block. Today, the condition of this bridge is dilapidated. There is no one to look after it. When we cross this bridge, there is a fear that an accident might occur. During elections, many representatives come and we get assurances from all of them. But till date, this dilapidated bridge has not been repaired.
Along with this, a driver who was coming with a goods vehicle from Chaibasa in Jharkhand said that the condition of bridges in Bihar is bad. Mostly, any bridge will be damaged to some extent and on the old bridges, one is always afraid that the vehicle might fall down.
