Expansion
In the capital Delhi, notification of the scheme to give tax exemption on scrapping old vehicles and buying new ones has been issued. People will be given tax exemption on submitting Certificate of Deposit (COD) of the old scrapped vehicle during registration of new commercial and non-commercial vehicles. There will be a 20% rebate in vehicle tax on registration of new non-transport petrol, CNG powered vehicles and 15% rebate for diesel powered vehicles. Also, 15% rebate in vehicle tax will be given to petrol, CNG and LPG run vehicles for transport (commercial) use and 10% rebate will be given to such new diesel run vehicles. The discount shall not exceed 50% of the scrap value.

Transport Department officials said that old vehicles cause more air pollution. There is a ban on petrol powered vehicles for 15 years and diesel powered vehicles for 10 years in Delhi-NCR. Despite this, people drive these vehicles on the roads. These vehicles are being confiscated while moving on the road. A plan has been prepared by the Transport Department to encourage people. In this, people will be given discount on scrapping their old vehicle and buying a new vehicle. Last month, registration of five lakh more 10 year old diesel and 15 year old petrol vehicles was cancelled. Earlier in 2021, registration of vehicles was cancelled. At that time their total number was 54 lakhs. Now only 82 lakh vehicles are plying on the roads of Delhi.

Officials said that there are two options regarding vehicles that have completed their life. Such vehicle owners can register their vehicles in other states by taking NOC from the Transport Department. Get these vehicles scrapped. Recently the Transport Department has also started a portal. In this, vehicle owners who have completed their age have been given the facility to scrap their vehicle, take NOC for seized vehicle or take NOC for registration in another state, etc.
