SP Ashok Kumar Meena took a tough stand against the accused who molested girls and women during the floods on the Lucknow-Delhi National Highway in the Chowk Kotwali area of Shahjahanpur. The police have registered a report and detained all the suspects and interrogated them.
Their criminal records are being investigated. A case of snatching a mobile phone from a person near Bareilly Mor has also come to light. On Thursday, after the floodwaters came on the highway, some miscreants had molested the women and girls passing between Bareilly Mor and Maujampur in the name of getting them out.
After the news was published prominently in Amar Ujala, people started sharing it on social sites and reacting strongly. Many people expressed anger. After this, the authorities took cognizance of the incident.
On the instructions of the SP, on Friday, Azeezganj Police Station in-charge Rohit Kumar registered a case against the unknown accused of molestation. The police investigation confirmed that women and girls were molested, obscene acts were done and lewd remarks were made.
