Goddess Lakshmi Eight Forms, Ashta Lakshmi: Mother Lakshmi is called the goddess of wealth and prosperity in Hinduism. The house where Maa Lakshmi is worshiped according to the rules and regulations, she always resides there. Mother Lakshmi is the wife and Adishakti of Lord Vishnu.

There is special importance of worshiping Goddess Lakshmi for wealth and prosperity. The description of eight forms of Goddess Lakshmi is found in the scriptures, which is called Ashtalakshmi. Worshiping Ashtalakshmi i.e. eight forms of Maa Lakshmi gives different results. Know about the worship method and characteristics of Ashtalakshmi.

Eight forms of Goddess Lakshmi (Ashtalakshmi)

  • First form Adilakshmi or Mahalakshmi- According to Shrimaddevi Bhagwat Purana, the trinity was manifested by Mahalakshmi in the beginning of creation and Mahakali and Mahasaraswati took shape from them. Mahalakshmi accepted to live with Lord Vishnu for the management of the world. The first form of Maa Lakshmi i.e. Goddess Adishakti gives life to living beings. That’s why the origin of life is considered from them only. By worshiping Adishakti one gets happiness and wealth in this world and hereafter.
  • Second form Dhanalakshmi- The second form of Maa Lakshmi is called Dhanalakshmi. Goddess Lakshmi took the form of Dhanalakshmi to free Lord Vishnu from the debt of Kuber. Dhanalakshmi is associated with Lord Venkatesh, who is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Dhanalakshmi has an urn full of money and lotus flowers in her hands. By worshiping Dhanalakshmi, financial troubles go away and one gets freedom from debt.
  • Third form Dhanyalakshmi- Dhanyalakshmi is the third form of Maa Lakshmi. It means food wealth. This third form of Maa Lakshmi is related to the granary. She is considered to be the form of Mata Annapurna. By worshiping them, the house is filled with grains along with money. But the house where food is disrespected, Dhanyalakshmi never resides there.
  • Fourth form Gajalakshmi – The fourth form of Maa Lakshmi is called Gajalakshmi. Gajalakshmi sits on an elephant on top of a lotus flower and elephants on both sides perform abhishek with water in their trunk. Dhanyalakshmi holds lotus flower, nectar urn, bell and conch shell in her four arms. She is considered the goddess of agriculture and harvest. People associated with agriculture worship Goddess Dhanyalakshmi.
  • Fifth form Santanalakshmi- The fifth form of Maa Lakshmi is called Santanalakshmi. In Shrimaddevi Bhagwat Purana, the fifth form of Goddess Adishakti is that of Skandamata, who is seen sitting on her lap with the child Kumar Skanda. The form of Santanalakshmi is also like that of Skandamata. That’s why Skandamata and Santanalakshmi are considered equal. By worshiping Santanalakshmi one gets the happiness of children.
  • Sixth form Veeralakshmi – The sixth form of Maa Lakshmi is called Goddess Veeralakshmi. She is adored by heroes and courageous people. There are different types of weapons in the eight arms of Goddess Veeralakshmi. By worshiping them one gets victory in war and is protected from premature death.
  • Seventh form Vijayalakshmi – The seventh form of Goddess Lakshmi is called Vijayalakshmi. By worshiping Vijayalakshmi, the mother gives Ajay-Abhaya to her devotees. People trapped in any crisis from court-court should worship Goddess Vijayalakshmi to get rid of it and win.
  • Eighth form Vidyalakshmi- As per the name, the eighth form of Goddess Lakshmi is the giver of education and knowledge. Worship of Goddess Vijayalakshmi increases intellectual capacity.
