Gaurav Jha/Nalanda. There is a great news for the farmers of Nalanda, as the government has announced to give 90% subsidy on mushroom cultivation. The aim of this scheme is not only to increase the income of the farmers but also to encourage mushroom production in the district. The government has set a target of producing 69,000 kg of mushrooms for the district this year, to achieve which Horticulture Officer Rakesh Kumar has started this scheme to motivate farmers in this field.

Under this scheme, the cost of a kit for mushroom production is Rs 55, which farmers will get for only Rs 5.50. Each farmer will be allowed to take a minimum of 25 and a maximum of 100 kits. However, the kits will be given only to those farmers who have received the necessary training for mushroom cultivation. The department believes that without training, mushroom cultivation does not give the expected results and there is a possibility of loss, in such a situation only trained persons will be entitled to it.

What is a mushroom kit?
Actually, mushroom kits contain all the materials required for growing, such as paddy straw, seeds, and other necessary materials. With proper care, the mushroom crop is ready in two to three weeks, and an average of three kilos of yield can be obtained from one kit. Mushrooms can also be cultivated at home and are available in every season, but consuming them in winters increases immunity and also helps in eliminating malnutrition in children. Vegetables, pakoras can be prepared from mushrooms, its taste is also very amazing.
