After making allegations on behalf of Twitter engineer, WhatsApp had to respond by tweeting from its official Twitter account. Told in WhatsApp that all this happened because of a bug, and not because WhatsApp is secretly monitoring users. The platform has reported that a bug with the privacy dashboard within the Android system is the reason. WhatsApp also said that they are contacting Google to investigate and fix this.

According to Engadget, a well-known tech news and review website, a Google spokesperson has also confirmed that the report affecting WhatsApp users, resulting in incorrect privacy sign and notifications within the privacy dashboard, is an Android bug. Due to this bug, users felt that the app was accessing their microphone or device camera when it was not. Google assured the users that they are actively working to solve this problem in a new update of the Android operating system.
