The Government of India has taken major action against VPN Apps. App Store and Google Play Store have been ordered to remove many VPN Apps. This includes Cloudflare’s popular VPN 1.1.1.1 and many other virtual private networks (VPNs). According to the report, legal violations have been cited as the reason behind the removal of these VPN apps.
According to the report of TechCrunch, it has been told in the report that the order to remove these apps was issued by the Indian Home Ministry. According to the report, in the message sent to the developers of the app, Apple mentioned a “demand” from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, a division of the Home Ministry.
The Center alleged that the developer’s content violates Indian law. However, neither the ministry nor tech giants Apple, Google and Cloudflare have commented on this. Many rules for VPN apps were decided by the government.
VPN providers had to follow these rules
In these rules, it was made mandatory for VPN providers and cloud service operators to keep detailed records of their users. These include address, IP address and five years of transaction history. According to these rules, these things have to be stored and made available to the government agency when needed.
Big VPN app players had expressed opposition
Big VPN app players had strongly opposed this rule. Industry players like NordVPN, ExpressVPN SurfShark and ProtonVPN had opposed it. These people have expressed serious concerns about this rule. In response to India’s new regulations, several leading VPN providers have announced plans to withdraw their server infrastructure from the country.
Let us tell you that apps like NordVPN, ExpressVPN and SurfShark still continue to serve Indian customers. However, they have stopped promoting such apps in the country.
