E-Shram Platform: The Government of India started the e-shram portal for all the people working in the unorganized sector in the year 2021. On Tuesday, September 17, the Government of India has issued instructions to all e-commerce companies to get their gig workers registered on the e-shram portal.
The Ministry of Labor and Employment of India has issued this order to aggregators like Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto and Urban Company. Now gig workers working in all these companies will be able to avail the benefits of all social security schemes. Along with that, all these companies will also be able to maintain the registration of their workers.
All workers will get UN number
People working on a temporary basis in the service sector and working as delivery boys in companies like Swiggy, Zomato and Zepto are called gig workers. The Ministry of Labor and Employment of India has issued an advisory to all these companies with SOP i.e. Standard Operating Procedure. In which, along with updating the data of these workers, other responsibilities have also been fixed for the companies.
Now all the workers working in these companies will get UAN i.e. Universal Account Number. Through which they will get all the social security benefits. If a worker leaves the company. Then the company will have to update this record as well. If the company faces any problem in this process, then a toll free helpline number 14434 has also been issued for it.

What is e Shram Portal?
E-Shram Portal is a step by the Ministry of Labor and Employment, Government of India. Its purpose is to provide social security and welfare to unorganized workers. Under this portal, unorganized workers are registered and given identity cards. This makes it easier for them to get the benefits of government schemes, benefits, and services.

Through the e-Shram card, unorganized workers get a Unique Identification Number (UAN). This number is necessary for future benefits. After registration, any worker can update his details by visiting the e-Shram portal or CSC center.
