The government has taken strict action against OTT platforms serving obscene content. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had banned many such apps a few days ago. These platforms were showing obscene content by breaking Indian laws. Under this action, action was taken against 19 websites, 10 mobile apps and 57 social media accounts associated with them, after which these websites and apps cannot be accessed in India.
The government had given information during the winter session
Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murgan had told in the winter session of Parliament that ended last month that the government has decided to block 18 OTT platforms under the IT Act 2021. Obscene and pornographic content was being served through all these apps.
These 18 OTT apps were banned

The ministry found that the content shown on these platforms is extremely obscene, insulting to the dignity of women and inappropriate. Many relationships were portrayed inappropriately in this. Such content is considered illegal under Indian law. A case was also filed by the government against the owners of these apps on charges of serving obscene content.
These apps have 32 lakh followers on social media
Many of these banned apps were very popular. Of these, one was downloaded more than one crore times and two more than 50 lakh times. She used to share the trailer and links of her content on social media platforms. These apps had more than 32 lakh followers on social media.
