Rajeev Chandrashekhar On Deepfake: The central government has taken a big decision in the deepfake case. The government will issue new rules of the IT Act in this regard within 7-8 days. After the new rules come, action will be taken against the accused of deepfake under the IT Act.
In this regard, Union Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar said on Tuesday (January 16) that the government is going to issue revised IT rules in the next seven to eight days. The minister’s reaction comes after Sachin Tendulkar’s deepfake video went viral on social media. The Union Minister further said that the provisions related to deepfakes and misinformation will be clarified more strictly in the new IT rules.
He said that the government has issued an advisory for this. If the government feels that this advisory is not being followed, then a revised new IT rule will also be brought with clear provisions in this regard.
‘Action will be taken if rules are not followed’
Chandrashekhar said that there is already a provision in the IT rules to take action against fake news and deepfakes, which is mandatory to follow. During this, they were also told what action can be taken if these rules are not followed.
‘It is the responsibility of the platform to stop deepfake videos’
The Union Minister clarified that it is the responsibility of the platform to stop deepfake videos. If any platform makes a mistake in this, the government will take action against it. Companies should not allow such people to use their platforms.
It is noteworthy that recently and again a deepfake video of cricketer Sachin Tendulkar had surfaced. After the video surfaced, the veteran cricketer issued a clarification and urged fans not to fall prey to misinformation. Earlier, deepfake video of actress Rashmika Mandanna had gone viral.
