In Gujarat, the Congress on Tuesday appointed Amit Chavda as the leader of the legislature party. Apart from this, Shailesh Parmar was made the deputy leader. Amit Chavda has previously served as Gujarat Congress chief. This information came out in a letter written by All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary KC Venugopal to Gujarat unit chief Jagdish Thakor.
Let me tell you, the Gujarat Assembly Secretariat had recently asked the Congress to appoint its leader in the House before January 19.
Chavda is a five-time MLA
Amit Chavda, 46, is a five-time MLA from Anand district in central Gujarat. He served as the Congress President of the state unit between 2018 and 2021. Chavda won Anand’s Anklav seat in the assembly elections held in December last year. In this election he defeated Gulab Singh Padhiyar of BJP.
Shailesh Parmar made deputy leader
On the other hand, if we talk about Shailesh Parmar, who was made Deputy Leader in the House, he won his fourth election last year from Danilimda seat of Ahmedabad. Parmar defeated BJP’s Naresh Vyas on the seat reserved for Scheduled Castes.
BJP had registered a historic victory in last year’s elections.
The ruling BJP won 156 seats in the elections to the 182-member Gujarat Assembly last month. The main opposition Congress came second with 17 seats. The Aam Aadmi Party won five seats, while three seats went to independents. The Samajwadi Party won the remaining one seat.
