Gujarat-Himachal Government Formation: After the results of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh elections are out, now the process of government formation is going on. The situation is clear in Gujarat where the BJP is preparing for its seventh term. Bhupendra Patel will take oath as Chief Minister on 12 December. However, churning is going on in Himachal Pradesh for the post of CM in the Congress. Know the big things related to the government formation of both the states.
1. A meeting of the newly elected Congress MLAs was called on Friday (December 9) in Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh. This meeting was to be held during the day, but due to frequent change of time, the meeting started late in the evening.
2. Before the start of this meeting, the power show of the contenders for the post of Chief Minister was also seen. Supporters of Himachal Pradesh Congress chief Pratibha Singh, outgoing leader of opposition Mukesh Agnihotri and election campaign committee chief Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu raised slogans in his favour. All three are being considered as the main contenders for the post of CM.
3. Two Congress observers – Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Congress in-charge of Himachal Pradesh Rajeev Shukla attended the meeting. Apart from him, Pratibha Singh and all the newly elected 40 MLAs were also present in the meeting.

4. In this meeting, no decision could be taken on the next CM of Himachal Pradesh. Congress Himachal Pradesh in-charge Rajeev Shukla said after the meeting that today all 40 MLAs participated in the Congress Legislature Party meeting and all unanimously passed a resolution to leave the decision to elect the Chief Minister of the state to the party high command.
5. Rajeev Shukla said that no name was suggested by any MLA and all the MLAs unanimously passed a resolution that the decision to choose the chief minister should be left to the party high command. All have authorized the party president to select the next chief minister. We will submit our report to the party high command tomorrow.
6. The Himachal Pradesh in-charge of the Congress also dismissed reports of factionalism in the party. He said that whatever is going on in the media is baseless. There is no factionalism in the Congress and everything is going well. The Congress party stands together. He further said that we all believe in Virbhadra ji. Congress is getting stronger again. We have a huge majority and there will be no horse trading.
7. The election results of Himachal Pradesh were released on Thursday (December 8). The Congress has shown the way out to the BJP by winning 40 seats in the 68-member assembly of Himachal Pradesh. BJP won 25 seats and independent candidates won 3 seats.
8. Congress observers had also met Himachal Pradesh Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar ahead of the meeting of the newly elected MLAs on Friday. After the meeting, senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that he has informed the governor that the party has a majority and will hold a formal meeting with him later to stake claim to form the government.
9. On the other hand, there was a lot of commotion in Gujarat on Friday regarding the formation of the government. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel along with his entire cabinet submitted their resignations to Governor Acharya Devvrat to pave the way for the formation of a new government in the state. BJP has registered a historic victory by winning 156 out of 182 assembly seats in Gujarat. The election results were released on Thursday. Congress could win only 17 seats.
10. The BJP has appointed Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, party’s Parliamentary Board member BS Yeddyurappa and Union Minister Arjun Munda as central observers for the selection of the legislature party leader in Gujarat. A meeting of the newly elected BJP MLAs in Gujarat has been called on Saturday (December 10) at the state party headquarters ‘Kamalam’ in Gandhinagar.
