The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.

The Gandhidham seat in Kutch district is reserved for Scheduled Castes. This time the ruling party BJP has hoisted the flag of victory here. From here the BJP had fielded its sitting MLA Malatiben Maheshwari. He defeated Bharat Solanki of INC by 37,831 votes.

This seat came into existence after the delimitation of Gandhidham seat in Kutch district bordering Pakistan in 2008. In the three elections held so far on this seat, BJP has won all the three times.

BJP got second consecutive victory in 2017
In the 2017 assembly elections, the BJP had fielded Malti Maheshwari from this seat in place of the then MLA Ramesh Maheshwari. BJP candidate Malti Maheshwari defeated Congress’s Gangji Bhai Kishore by a margin of 20,000 votes. This was the second consecutive victory of the BJP on this seat. A total of 14 candidates were in the fray in this election. Apart from the Congress and BJP candidates, the deposits of the remaining 12 candidates were forfeited. Elections were held for the first time in 2012 on the Gandhidham seat in which the BJP won. BJP candidate Ramesh Maheshwari defeated Congress’ Jayshree Ben Chavda by 21,000 votes.

Malti was the youngest MLA in the 14th Assembly
Starting her political career in 2017, Malti Maheshwari was the youngest MLA in the 14th Vidhan Sabha. The BJP had declared him as its candidate for the 2022 elections as well. At the same time, the Congress had given ticket to Kutch District Congress SC Morcha President Bharat Solanki. Solanki is known as a sweets businessman. The seat went to polls in the first phase on December 1. The results came on 8 December.
