The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.

Jamnagar North seat of Jamnagar district was one of the most talked about seats in this election. This time, Rivaba Jadeja, wife of cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, was in the fray from here. Rivaba won in the very first election. He defeated Karshanbhai Karmur of Aam Aadmi Party by 53,570 votes.

This seat went to Congress in 2012

In the 2012 assembly elections, this seat was won by Dharmendra Singh Jadeja of INC. Dharmendra defeated BJP’s Mulubhai by a margin of more than 9 thousand votes. A total of 13 candidates were in the fray in that election. Except for the candidates of BJP and Congress, the deposits of the remaining 11 candidates were forfeited.
In the 2017 assembly elections, the BJP fielded Dharmendra Jadeja, who left the Congress, as its candidate from this seat. Jadeja defeated Jeevanbhai Kumbharwadia of Congress by more than 40 thousand votes. Apart from these two, the deposits of the remaining 22 candidates were forfeited.
Jadeja was expelled from the party by the Congress for cross-voting for the BJP during the 2017 Rajya Sabha elections. Later Dharmendra Jadeja also became a minister in the Rupani government. Recently, the Gujarat High Court refused to withdraw a criminal case against sitting BJP MLA Dharmendra. Since then, the hopes of his candidature from the BJP were almost over.
Before 2012, most of this seat used to come under Jamnagar assembly seat. It ceased to exist after the new delimitation. The Jamnagar seat was a BJP stronghold from 1985 to 2007. The BJP had won from here in all the six elections held during this period.
