The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.
For this election, Congress has replaced sitting MLA Bhavesh Bhai Katara by Dr. Mitesh K. Garcia was fielded. Garcia finished third. AAP’s Anil Garasia lost to BJP’s Maheshbhai Bhuria by 35,222 votes.
The Jhalod assembly seat in Dahod district is one of the reserved seats in the state in the Gujarat elections. This seat is reserved for the Scheduled Tribes, which was very special for the main opposition party of the state, Congress. Before this election, the party has won the last three elections here consecutively. Elections were held for the first time on this seat in 1962. Congress has won 12 times out of 14 elections held here while BJP won twice in 2002 and 2022.
BJP had won here in 2017
The Congress had won this seat in the 2017 assembly elections. In this election Congress candidate Bhaveshbhai Katara defeated BJP’s Maheshbhai Bhuria by 25 thousand votes. Only two candidates were in the fray in this election.
Prior to 2017, the Congress had won this seat in the 2012 elections. Dr. Mitesh K. entered the fray on behalf of the Congress. Garasia defeated BJP candidate Bhavsinghbhai Vaghela.
Congress had cut the ticket of the sitting MLA on this seat.
For the 2022 elections, the Congress had denied ticket to sitting MLA Bhavesh Bhai Katara on this seat. In his place, the party has appointed Dr. Mitesh K. Garcia was fielded. Whereas, BJP had made Maheshbhai Bhuria its candidate from here. Anil Garasia was in the fray from the Aam Aadmi Party. Polling was held on this seat in the second phase on December 5. The results came on 8 December.
BJP won four seats in Dahod district in 2017
Jhalod seat is one of the seven seats under Dahod district. In 2017, BJP had won four out of seven seats in the district. At the same time, the Congress was successful in winning three seats.
