The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.
Kapadvanj assembly seat of Kheda district was one of the important seats of the state. BJP had made Rajeshkumar Jhala its candidate from here. In this election he defeated Kalabhai Dabhi of INC by 31,878 votes.
Congress won here in 2017
The Congress had won this seat in the 2017 assembly elections. In this election, Congress candidate Kalabhai Dabhi defeated BJP’s Ram Kanubhai Dabhi by 27,000 votes. A total of seven candidates were in the fray in this election. Except BJP, Congress and Independent candidate Bimal Shah, the deposits of the rest four were forfeited.
Prior to 2017, this seat was won by the Congress in the 2012 elections. Shankar Singh Vaghela, who contested from Congress, defeated BJP candidate Kanubhai Dabhi.
BJP-Congress both have scored hat-trick of victory here
This seat is one of those seats in the state where both the Congress and the BJP are dominating. From 2007 to 2017, the Congress has won three consecutive elections here. At the same time, from 1995 to 2002, BJP also won three consecutive elections. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Shankar Singh Vaghela has won elections from here. Elections were held on this seat for the first time in 1962.
Congress had given ticket to the sitting MLA
Congress had given ticket to sitting MLA Kalabhai Raijibhai Dabhi on this seat for 2022 elections. Whereas, BJP had made Rajeshkumar Maganbhai Jhala its candidate from here. Manubhai Patel was in the fray from the Aam Aadmi Party. Polling on this seat was held in the second phase on December 5. The results came on 8 December.
In 2017, BJP-Congress got three seats in Kheda district
Kapadvanj seat comes in Kheda district. There are total six assembly seats in this district. In 2017, BJP had won three out of six seats in the district. Whereas, the Congress was successful in winning only three seats.
