The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.
Radhanpur seat of Patan district is one of the most discussed seats in this election. Loving Ji Thakor was the BJP candidate from this seat. In this election Thakor defeated Raghubhai Desai of INC by 22,467 votes.
Please inform that in 2017, Alpesh Thakor of Congress won this seat. However, he later resigned from the legislature and joined the BJP. Alpesh, who contested on a BJP ticket in the by-election, had to face defeat. He was defeated by Raghubhai Desai of INC. This time BJP made Alpesh the candidate from Gandhinagar South seat.
Alpesh Thakur had won the Congress seat in 2017.
In the 2017 assembly elections, the BJP had made Loving Ji Thakor its candidate from this seat. Alpesh Thakor was in the fray from Congress. Alpesh defeated BJP candidate Loving Ji Thakor by a margin of 14,000 votes. A total of 17 candidates were in the fray in this election. Apart from the Congress and BJP candidates, the deposits of the remaining 15 candidates were forfeited.
BJP also lost the by-election held after Alpesh’s resignation in 2019.
Alpesh Thakor left the Congress and joined the BJP in June 2019. In the by-election held after Alpesh’s resignation, Alpesh was defeated by Congress’s Raghubhai Desai by 3,800 votes. The BJP had fielded its former candidate Loving Ji Thakor from here for the 2022 assembly elections. At the same time, the Congress had given ticket to its sitting MLA Raghubhai Desai. Polling was held on this seat in the second phase on December 5. The results came on 8 December.
Congress won three seats in Patan district in 2017
Radhanpur seat is one of the four seats under Patan district. In 2017, the Congress had won three of the four seats in the district. At the same time, BJP was successful in winning one seat.
BJP’s victory in 2012 elections
The BJP had won this seat in the 2012 elections. BJP’s Nagarji Thakor defeated Congress candidate Bhav Singhji Rathod by a margin of 3000 votes. A total of ten candidates were in the fray in that election. Except for the candidates of BJP and Congress, the deposits of the remaining eight candidates were forfeited.
