With the hat-trick of victories, Haryana also became one of the strongest forts of BJP like Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. But very few people would know that its foundation was prepared by the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi while he was in charge of the state for six years. When he was in charge, the party, along with INLD, defeated the Congress in the state in the 1999 Lok Sabha elections. Modi was also in charge at that time when BJP tasted power in the state for the first time with Bansi Lal’s Haryana Vikas Party.
Modi became in-charge of Haryana in 1995 and served this responsibility till he took charge of Gujarat as CM on October 7, 2001. While in charge of Haryana, he directed the party to adopt an aggressive stance in the matter of ex-servicemen. Apart from this, he laid the foundation of a new social equation of forward, backward, Punjabi and Vaishya to build the base of the party. When Modi became PM in 2014, the party performed the miracle of securing majority on its own in the state for the first time.
Decision to move ahead on one’s own: There was a time when the party in Haryana was dependent on other parties. Sometimes the party depended on Haryana Vikas Party and sometimes on INLD. However, after becoming PM, Modi decided to take the party forward on his own. Just before the assembly elections, the party broke its alliance with the Haryana Janhit Congress, to whom the party had decided to give the post of CM. After its expected results, today the party has proved itself invincible in the state.
Modi had campaigned for Babu Devidas
An old photo of PM Narendra Modi went viral on Tuesday amid the announcement of Haryana Assembly election results. In this, he is seen campaigning for Devidas, the common candidate of BJP and INLD. Modi was a common worker then. In this photo shared on the social media platform named Modi Archive, it can be seen that he is sitting on the stage with other leaders. Babu Devidas was MLA from Sonipat thrice.
