The graph of electricity theft has increased in the rural areas of Hathras. About 60 percent of electricity is being stolen in the countryside. In the year 2023, cases of electricity theft have been registered against 2595 people. The department is facing loss of lakhs of rupees every month due to lack of complete control over theft.

It is worth mentioning that electricity is supplied to two lakh sixty thousand consumers from 65 power stations in the district. Talking about electricity theft in cities and towns, it is 28 to 30 percent. On the other hand, if we talk about rural areas, 60 percent of electricity is being stolen. In the year 2020, the electricity station opened in the district. Since the opening of the police station, so far 19 thousand people have been caught stealing electricity. In the year 2022, 4758 people were caught stealing electricity. In the year 2023, 2595 people were caught stealing.

Most of these cases were from rural areas. Out of 19000 thousand cases, charge sheets and final reports have been filed in 4500 cases so far. Due to shortage of staff, charge sheets and final reports have been filed in fewer cases. Electricity station in-charge Jitendra Singh says that ever since the station is open. So far 19 thousand people have been caught stealing electricity. Most of the cases of electricity theft are in rural areas. This year 2595 people have been caught stealing electricity.
