Closed community toilets in rural and areas are sabotaging the Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Community toilets have not yet been constructed in many places in the area. Locks keep hanging on those who have become ready.
Five community toilets were to be constructed in Nagar Panchayat Sahapau. Out of these, the contractor has completed two toilets while three toilets are still under construction. At the same time, community toilets built in rural areas are also proving to be white elephants.
During the construction of community toilets in the urban area, the people here were hopeful that now they will not have to go for open defecation. Even the toilets that have been built are mostly closed. Due to this people have to face problems in the houses where toilets are not built.
The toilets built in our village mostly remain closed. There is no water supply in the toilets. This key is with three people, apart from them no one goes there to defecate. – Satish Kumar, Nagla Bihari
The toilets in our locality are still incomplete. Not taking the name of starting. Now even the chairman has moved away. Now don’t know when this toilet will be ready. Only God is its master. – Harish Kumar, Mohalla Aheriana Sahpau
There is no water facility as there is no electricity connection. That’s why it is kept closed. Sometimes the community toilet opens. Application has been given for electricity connection but no hearing has been done so far. Omveer Singh, Village Head, Nagla Bihari
