HMPV 1st Case in India: The first case of HMPV virus which is wreaking havoc in China has been found in India. Human metapneumovirus has been found in an 8-month-old child in Bengaluru. According to reports, the child was admitted to a private hospital after persistent fever. Where this virus has been confirmed by blood test.
However, Karnataka Health Department has not yet given any such confirmation but according to media reports, this sample has now been sent to Pune. What is HMPV virus and how is it tested?
It is an RNA virus, which belongs to the metapneumovirus of the Pneumoviridae family. It was discovered for the first time by a Dutch researcher in 2001. There can be a risk of upper and lower respiratory diseases due to infection, on this basis it will also be examined. According to health experts, children, the elderly and those with weak immunity are most at risk from this disease.

How does the HMPV virus spread?
HMPV virus i.e. Human metapneumovirus spreads mostly through coughing and sneezing. This virus can also be transferred by touching the infected person or shaking hands. Some experts believe that HMPV virus is present around all the time but when the cold increases i.e. the temperature falls, it becomes more active and starts taking hold.
How to avoid human metapneumovirus
1. Wear a mask if you go out of the house.
2. If you meet an infected person, clean your hands thoroughly.
3. Do not go to crowded places.
4. Maintain cleanliness in the house.
5. After returning from the hospital, take bath or clean your hands, feet and face thoroughly.
