Air pollution increases the risk of lung cancer
Researchers have found in various studies how air pollution and other environmental factors are increasing lung cancer. A research published in The Lancet’s Clinical Medicine journal, after reviewing the data available in South-East Asia, found that most of the people suffering from lung cancer in India do not smoke cigarettes or bidis or any other kind of smoking.
Smokers have twice the risk of cancer
In this study, citing the World Air Quality Report of 2022, the researcher said that out of the 40 most polluted cities in the world, 37 are in South Asia. Of these, 4 are in India alone. This proves that smoking doubles the risk of lung cancer, and in those who do not smoke, bad air and many environmental factors are causing cancer.

81 climate-related disasters were seen in the year 2022. The countries in Asia that were most affected by natural disasters include China, India, Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand. These countries had the highest number of new cases of lung cancer in the year 2020, which is more than 9.65 lakh. Scientists said that with climate change, the air quality will also deteriorate and lung cancer will increase rapidly, which is no less than a big challenge for Asia.
