How dangerous is Marburg virus?
According to WHO, Marburg is a very fast spreading virus. It causes fever and bleeding, due to which people can die. Coming in contact with someone infected with this virus can spread the infection to others. This infection spreads through contact with any kind of fluid or cut skin or blood. Even if fluid or blood from the infected person falls somewhere and someone comes close to it, he can still catch the virus. According to the Cleveland Clinic, if someone gets infected with Marburg virus, it takes 5-7 days to reach the first stage.
where did marburg virus come from
Marburg virus was first found in Frankfurt, Germany in 1961. Around the same time, patients from Marburg were also found in Belgrade and Serbia. The African Green Monkey was brought from Uganda for scientific work, where the virus spread from this monkey in the laboratory. After this the virus spread in many countries of Africa. After this, the virus remained subdued for some time but then in 2008, a person who reached Uganda got this virus.
