How was normal body temperature known?
The standard of normal human body temperature of 98.6 was created by German Dr. Karl Wunderlich 150 years ago. He had decided this after measuring the temperature of more than 10 lakh people. According to Julie Parsonnet, professor of medicine, epidemiology and population health at Stanford, normal body temperature depends on the person and his condition. The normal temperature rarely exceeds 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. He said that there is a huge data of normal temperature of human body in the world. The average body temperature of the average American person has fallen by about 0.05 degrees from the norm of 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit every decade since the 19th century. Now the average body temperature of most people is around 97.9 degrees Fahrenheit.
Normal body temperature of children
A study in 1868 found that men and the elderly had lower body temperatures than women and the young. Body temperature increased in the afternoon. Only after this the standard of average temperature of human body was fixed at 98.6 degrees. Doctor Lee Gordon said that medical grade fever starts only at a temperature above 100.4 degrees. The average body temperature of newborn babies is around 99.5 degrees. The average body temperature of children is 97.52 degrees.
