It can cause inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord i.e. encephalitis and meningitis.
Where was this virus found?
This virus was found in North America and the Caribbean. In America, it was first found in people of the eastern and Gulf coastal states. Associate Research Scientist Verity Hill of the Yale University School of Public Health said that it reaches humans from various species of birds through mosquitoes. This virus is usually carried by black-tailed mosquitoes. Most of its cases are reported in eastern America, Mexico and the Caribbean.
How dangerous is Triple E infection?
According to reports, about 30 percent of people infected with this disease die. Even those who survive after treatment have physical and mental problems. It can affect people of all ages but is more dangerous for those above 50 years of age and below 15 years of age.
