Azam Khan’s appeal against his two-year sentence in the hate speech case was heard on Thursday. Additional Advocate General Anil Pratap Singh, appearing on behalf of the government, said that the lower court has sentenced the SP leader after examining the legal evidence.

The decision of the lower court should be upheld. At present the debate has not been completed. Now the next hearing of this case will be on January 16. In the hate speech case registered at Shahzadnagar police station, the lower court had convicted SP leader Azam Khan and sentenced him to two years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2500.

The SP leader has filed an appeal against this decision in the Sessions Court, the hearing of which is going on. Hearing in this matter took place on Thursday. During the hearing, Additional Advocate General Anil Pratap Singh and Assistant Government Advocate Kumar Saurabh presented their side in the court on behalf of the government. Assistant government advocate Kumar Saurabh said that the prosecution’s arguments have not been completed. This case will be heard on January 16.

Victim recorded statement in assault case

In the case of assault and intimidation registered against six people including SP leader Azam Khan, the victim reached the court and recorded his statement. The court has fixed January 25 for cross-examination. A case was filed against the SP leader by his neighbor Arif Raza in Ganj police station in 2019, in which he had alleged that six people including SP leaders Azam Khan, Farhan Khan had assaulted and threatened him.

In this case, the police had filed a charge sheet against six people. This case was heard on Thursday. Arif Raza recorded his statement during the hearing. Senior prosecution officer Amarnath Tiwari said that the main examination of Arif Raza has been completed. The court has fixed January 25 for cross-examination.

Farmer leader’s interim bail increased to 17

The court has extended the interim bail period of BKU Tikait state general secretary Haseeb Ahmed till January 17. He is accused of making objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A case was filed against him by BJP leader Fasahat Ali Khan Sanu in August.

In this case registered at Civil Lines police station, the police had arrested the farmer leader last month. After this he got interim bail. After hearing the case on Thursday, the court extended his interim bail till January 17.
