Hyderabad: Hyderabad city is called the city of food lovers. Biryani is the most eaten and liked dish here. Similarly, in Hyderabad city, another thing is eaten with tea, whose taste and texture are both unique. We are talking about Lukhmi. This is the most delicious dish eaten with tea in Hyderabad.
what is lukhmi
Talking to Local 18, the employees of Safdar shop say that Lukhmi is in a way a form of samosa. Just like samosa is prepared, Lukhmi is also prepared in the same way. We make Lukhmi by filling it with minced meat. In many places, it is also prepared by filling it with veg material but in Hyderabad only Keema Lukhmi is famous. It is slightly larger than the size of samosa. Many people prepare it like phulki. The shape of Lukhmi is like a flat square patty. It tastes amazing.
Method of making Lukhmi
To make Lukhmi, just like we make samosa, first knead the dough. If flour is used then it is even better. Then make mincemeat as per your taste. Then, just like potatoes are stuffed in samosas, cut the dough into four corners, then stuff the minced meat in it, heat oil on low flame and fry it.
After some time, when the color becomes light brown, take it out. Your Lukhmi will be ready. After this you can eat it with green chutney or with tea. It is not that Lukhmi is made only from minced meat, there are many shops where veg Lukhmi is also prepared and people eat it very fondly. This is the same way of making it, only instead of mincemeat, veg items like potatoes or vegetable masala are used.
History of Lukhmi
Lukhmi is an Urdu word meaning morsel and it became popular during the reign of the Nizams in Hyderabad. This is a non-vegetarian dish which was very much liked by the Hyderabad Nizam. Keeme-ki-Lukhmi is still served as a starter in authentic Hyderabadi weddings and other celebrations.
