Common causes of high blood pressure onset in youth are: hyperthyroidism, kidney problems, renal artery disease.
Causes of high BP are very different in young and old
Dr Sehrawat says that the reasons for the onset of high blood pressure in the young and the elderly are very different. An example of high BP in youth is hyperthyroidism, in which T3 and T4 levels are abnormally high. Other causes include kidney problems, renal arterial hypertension, pheochromocytoma, or neuroendocrine tumors that grow from chromaffin cells found in the adrenal glands. A person should exercise at least 150 minutes per week daily. Exercise doesn’t necessarily mean going to the gym, a person can get the benefits of exercise by doing daily tasks like walking stairs, squatting and wiping the floor etc.

High blood pressure is common among young people, affecting 1 in 8 adults aged 20 to 40. High blood pressure in youth can affect heart and brain health. The myth about the onset of high blood pressure is so prevalent that young adults don’t notice its symptoms and even if they do, they don’t worry about it and skip going to the doctor. These factors increase the risk of high blood pressure in young people. Youth should check their blood pressure regularly. There are no early warning signs of high blood pressure and only symptoms associated with increased high blood pressure appear at a later stage.
