Himachal Assembly By-Election 2024: Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania has accepted the resignations of the three independent MLAs. Now the three independent MLAs Krishan Lal Thakur, Hoshiar Singh and Ashish Sharma are no longer members of the Assembly. The independent MLAs resigned from their membership on March 22 and joined the BJP on March 23. By-elections will also be held in three other assembly constituencies of Himachal Pradesh in the coming six months.

The fight to accept the resignation reached the High Court
On 22 March, independent MLAs Krishan Lal Thakur, Hoshiar Singh and Ashish Sharma went to the Vidhan Sabha and submitted their resignations. After which they joined BJP on 23 March. When the Vidhan Sabha Speaker did not accept their resignations, the three MLAs approached the High Court to get their resignations accepted. But due to the dissenting view of the double bench of the High Court, the case was being heard by a single judge. Meanwhile, today the Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania accepted the resignations of the three independent MLAs.

By-elections were held on 6 seats on June 1
Let us tell you that along with the elections on four Lok Sabha seats in Himachal, by-elections have also been held on six seats. Six Congress MLAs were disqualified by the party. These MLAs had cross-voted in the Rajya Sabha elections held in February 2024. Due to which Harsh Malhotra of BJP won instead of Congress’s Rajya Sabha candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi. Congress had disqualified six MLAs for violating the party whip. After which all these MLAs joined the BJP. After this Lok Sabha ElectionsVoting for the assembly by-elections was held in Dharamsala, Lahaul and Spiti, Sujanpur, Barsar, Gagret and Kutlehar on June 1 along with the voting for the assembly seats.
